What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy focuses on the musculo-skeletal system (bones, joints, muscles and ligaments) and the way in which this inter-relates with the body as a whole.
Osteopaths diagnose and treat faults which occur because of injury, stress or perhaps disease, to enable the musculo-skeletal system to work as efficiently as possible.
After treatment an osteopath can advise on maintaining a realistic level of health e.g remedial exercise to adjust posture or advice on lifestyle.
Osteopaths use their hands to carry out a variety of manipulative techniques. These may include soft tissue stretching, rythmic passive joint movements or gentle manipulations.
An osteopath can help with the following conditions:
- Lower back pain and sciatica
- Neck pain and whiplash
- Arthritis and spondylosis
- Headaches
- Joint pain/strain
- Repetitive strain injury
- Golfers/Tennis elbow
- Sports injuries
- Aches and pains of pregnancy
- Colic and irritability in babies
What will it cost?
Most people consult an osteopath privately, the fees at the Hemel Osteopathic Practice are:
- First consultation and treatment £39
- Subsequent treatments £30
We are covered by all major private healthcare companies such as PPP, BUPA and HSA. If seeking cover one must check the eligability of their particular scheme as some require a GP referral letter before the onset of treatment.
